Hurricane Names 2008 – The list of hurricane names for 2008 has been issued by World Meteorological Organization.
Hurricane Names 2008 are:
Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Edouard, Fay, Gustav, Hanna, Ike, Josephine, Kyle, Laura, Marco, Nana, Omar, Paloma, Rene, Sally, Teddy, Vicky, Wilfred
Names for hurricanes used to be only female names until 1979, when alternating male names were added. Six lists are used in rotation.
The hurricane names used in 2008 will be used again in 2014. Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1.
The only times names of hurricanes are changed is when a dangerous storm has, by chance, been given a name that could be deemed insensitive.
