Taco Liberty Bell – The Taco Liberty Bell hoax is probably one of the best April Fools jokes every played back in 1996 when Taco Bell made a ringing announcement.

The Taco Liberty Bell hoax began when Taco Bell announced that it had purchased the beloved Liberty Bell and would rename it The Taco Liberty Bell.

Hundreds of calls flooded the National Historic Park in Philadelphia by angry citizens outraged by the announcement.
A few hours later, the Taco Liberty Bell was revealed to be an April Fools Day hoax. A hilarious side note is that when asked about the Taco Liberty Bell, White House press secretary (in 1996) said that the Lincoln Memorial had also been sold and would now be known as the Ford Lincoln Mercury Memorial.
That’s the latest April Fools chatter about the Taco Liberty Bell.
