Chicos Closing Stores – Chicos closing 25 stores was hinted at by the retailer back in January and now shoppers are noticing some of those stores leaving local malls.

Chicos is closing 25 stores and laying off about 180 employees as the retailer struggles with poor results and a sinking economy.

While the popular retailer of women’s clothing has yet to announce which stores they are closing, shoppers are noticing differences in some stores like more aggressive clearance sales and fewer employees to help shoppers.
Chico’s has stated that they plan to focus on their better performing Chicos stores, the White House Black Market brand, and their newer Soma brands. They announced in 2008 that they will close all Fitigues stores.
That’s the latest chatter about Chicos Closing Stores.

I buy 90% of my clothes at Chicos in Scottsdale. Have noticed that they have fewer garments for the more “mature” customer….fewer pants with elastic waists and mostly tops containing spandex which are not flattering for the older customer. Women over 55 still like to be stylish…but I find that tops which I bought 3 or 4 years ago in Chico size 3 still fit me perfectly whereas their current size 3 tops and jackets are much too skimpy.
Perhaps they still need to appeal to mature full-figured women as well as the younger ones who like to be busting out all over.
