New Consignment Store Rules – New rules for consignment stores and thrift stores go into effect on Feburary 10, 2009 that have many used merchandise sellers in an uproar.

The new consignment store rules apply to merchandise sold for children age 12 and under.

The Federal Government has once again decided that it is their job to protect us from ourselves, and at a time when American consumers need to save money and find bargains more than ever.

The new Consumer Product Safety Act requires that all products sold for children 12 and under must be tested for lead and phathlates.

The new rule will be the end of one of the most enduring recycling practices: reselling children’s products. Most reselling retailers just can’t take the risk and will cease selling all kinds of children’s products from strollers, toys, and cribs to clothing and shoes.

Better that these items go to the landfill instead. What a shame… what a waste.

That’s the latest chatter about the New Consignment Store Rules.
