Operation Baghdad Pups – Sgt. Gwen Beberg of Minneapolis is stationed in Iraq and has been denied permission to bring home her adopted puppy named Ratchet.

Operation Baghdad Pups is run by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals International or the SPCA International.

The US Defense Department prohibits military personnel from adopting animals but the rules have not been followed and Operation Baghdad Pups has successfully brought 50 dogs and 6 cats to the US from Iraq.
Sgt. Gwen Beberg along with Operation Baghdad Pups have secured 10,000 signatures on a petition to allow Ratchet to be brought to the US. Beberg believes he will die if left in Iraq.
On Monday, the coordinator for Operation Baghdad Pups flew to the Middle East to try to get Ratchet the puppy sent to the US.
Have you ever donated money to the SPCA? Wonder how many homeless and abused animals right here in the US would have benefited/survived on the money that trip cost to try to save one?
We all love cute puppies, dogs, cats, and so on and Chatter wishes only the best for Ratchet, but come on people, this is one dog. Aren’t there other tragedies in the world that should take higher priority like, oh let’s say, PEOPLE dying in Iraq?!
And that’s the latest chatter about Operation Baghdad Pups.

How can the life of this dog mean so little to you.
Shame on you

and yet, we spend 1 trillion dollars backing morally bankrupt, overreaching, lying corporations….I think this money is better spent.

Have you taken a look at the national debt? Maybe we should put some frivously spent money toward that instead

I don’t see what the problem is. If someone wants to save THAT dog, then they can donate money to THAT cause. Its freedom of choice.

We all love our Soldiers and news about the war is constant, must we belittle “love” as news? I’m glad to hear that our Soldiers have found pets in this horrible war to share their love with and to give them some semblance of normalacy. Pets can take our minds off of some very terrible situations and their unconditional love can help us get through some very tough times. I hope that Sgt. Beberg can bring Ratchet home safely.
There are always more people and/or animals than we can possible save in this world, wether it be here at home or abroad, but when a connection is made that life must be saved, we can’t deny it just because it’s not “one of ours”. Love is love and humanity cannot deny it no matter where it is found. It has certainly given one Soldier something special in a terrible war. It’s not much to ask that Ratchet be allowed to accompany Sgt. Beberg home.
