Pregnant Cop Denied Desk Duty – A decorated police officer in the Ocean Township in New Jersey was denied her request for desk duty after learning she was two months pregnant.

The pregnant cop denied desk duty was Sonia Enriques who recently won the Medal of Valor. She is one of three female officers employed by the Ocean Township.

Sonia Enriques was given two options by police chief, Antonio Amodio. Stay on the job or take unpaid leave.
“I don’t have the authority to say to someone that I will continue to pay you for 8 months to do a job that you weren’t hired to do , I don’t have that authority,” stated police Antonio Amodio about the pregnant cop denied desk duty.
But, Police Benevolent Association officials argue that light duty jobs were given to male officers with temporary disabilities and that Sonia Enriques should have the same reasonable accommodation.

“This should be the happiest time of her life, she shouldn’t have any added stress of worrying about whether she’s gonna have a paycheck, if she’s gonna have a job” said Luke Sciallo of PBA local 57.

Colleague Bruce Friend added, “The chief is being unreasonable, he’s made accommodations for these other male employees, but has not made it for this female employee.”

Because of the backlash and headlines touting ‘Pregnant Cop Denied Desk Duty’ the Ocean Township has now offered Sonia Enriques a light duty job until a maternity policy can be adopted.

And that’s the latest chatter about the pregnant cop denied desk duty.
