FoShoKnowIMean.com – Another suspicious new website, FoShoKnowIMean.com, popped up today and here is why it could mean trouble for you.
Gotten a message from the FoShoKnowIMean website that says “Is this u on foshoknowimean.com?” that shows a picture of you and comes from an online friend?
Congratulations! You just got hit by the Web’s longest running spam and scam con game where the thought of your pics being posted on some anonymous website sends you scurrying to find out what it’s all about, right?
Well, relax! There are no pics of you on FoShoKnowIMean.com. Nor are there any pics of anyone else anywhere at all on the FoShoKnowIMean website.
The whole thing is a spam and scam website, one that’s identical to hundreds of others that have popped up in the past two years.
The FoShoKnowIMean.com website tricks people by pretending to be a message from a friend who’s concerned about your pics being somewhere they shouldn’t. You go check it out and find they want your email and password before you can see the pics they have of you.
Then, you find that your “friend” has reserved a “free gift” for you, and you have to complete a couple of merchandise offers before you can claim your free gifts.
Thirty minutes later and you still don’t have access to your pics!
Relax! There aren’t any pics on that website, period. Go to MySpace or Facebook or wherever you saw the spam message and immediately change your password.
Why? Because these scammers have an automated script that snags what you enter on the FoShoKnowIMean website and then logins in as you at the website that you told them referred you.
Their spam script automatically sends out the same messsage that hooked you to all your own friends. A little javascript file in the message grabs your friend’s profile pic and displays it when they read the message.
Your friend automatically assumes you sent them this message and goes to FoShoKnowIMean.com to check it out.
Presto, the spam and scam cycle begins anew.
Here’s a list of identical scam and spam websites:
And that’s why you should avoid the spam and scam website FoShoKnowIMean.com
