Pink Dragon Millipede – The pink dragon millipede wins for the most colorful on the Top 10 New Species list released by the International Institute for Species Exploration (IISE).

The Pink Dragon Millipede is an extraordinarily fuschia color believed to be a warning to predators of it’s high level of toxicity.

It’s real name is Desmoxytes Purpurosea, but who wants to try to say that? Pink Dragon Millipede works best for us non-Latin speakers.
The very colorful Dragon Millipede is actually misnamed. It only has 88 legs. The pink dragon millipede grows to over 3 inches long and is eaten by rats and other rodents.
Other species on the Top 10 New Species List are the Michelin Man plant, the rinoceros beetle, the poisonous box jellyfish, a cute little fruit bat, the inland taipan snake with the scientifc name of oxyuranus temporalis.
I don’t think I want to know the translation of that bit of Latin. And something to ponder, is the male dragon millipede embarrassed to be so, well…. pink?
And that’s the latest chatter about the Pink Dragon Millipede.
